What is Sprezzatura?
This Italian term refers to the situation in which something is created in way that seems to be without much effort or thought; concealing all artistic works committed to make it happen. This term was first used by Baldassare Castiglione and involves the avoidance of affectation in all manners that may apply (Castiglione 2002). An example of a Sprezzatura is the floating of a bee and stinging of a bee. The sting of a bee and the floatation of a butterfly are two seemingly effortless actions which humans can apply in order to demonstrate Sprezzatura in a natural way. Another example is a situation in which someone may spontaneously come up with a new way of writing an essay without being taught – naturally.
